How to Get Lynn Arrest Records

Lynn uses the NextRequest portal for public records requests. This is the fastest way to get copies of booking records, arrest reports, and incident reports from the Lynn Police Department. You create a free account, type in what you need, and submit the request. The system tracks your request and sends updates by email.

You can also request Lynn booking records by email, mail, or in person. Send email requests to records@lynnpolice.org. For mail, address your letter to the Records Division at 300 Washington Street, Lynn, MA 01902. Walk-in requests are taken during business hours at the same address. No matter which way you ask, the department must respond within 10 business days under M.G.L. c. 66, Section 10. The first two hours of staff search time are free. After that, fees can run up to $25 per hour. Paper copies cost between $0.05 and $0.25 per page.

Keep in mind that Lynn's average response time on MuckRock requests has been about 111 days, and the success rate sits near 38 percent. That does not mean your request will take that long. Simple requests for a single booking record tend to go faster than broad requests for large sets of data. Be as specific as you can. Include the person's full name, date of birth, and date of arrest if you know it.

The Lynn Police Department posts police logs on its website. These logs list calls for service, incidents, and arrests. They are a good way to see recent booking activity in the city without filing a formal records request. Each log entry shows the date, time, type of call, location, and what action was taken.

You can view the Lynn police logs page to find daily arrest and incident data. The screenshot below shows this page.

The logs give a snapshot of what is going on in Lynn day to day. They do not have the full detail of a booking record, but they do confirm that an arrest took place and show the basic charge. For the full booking record with fingerprints, mugshot, and detailed charges, you need to file a request through NextRequest or contact the records division directly. Under M.G.L. c. 41, Section 98F, domestic violence arrests and 209A restraining order violations are kept out of public arrest logs.

Note: Police logs may not include every arrest, and some entries are redacted for privacy or safety reasons.

Lynn Bookings at Essex County Jail

After the Lynn Police Department processes a booking, most people who are not released on bail go to the Essex County jail. The Middleton House of Correction at 20 Manning Avenue, Middleton, MA 01949 is the main facility. The Essex County Sheriff's Department runs it. You can call (978) 750-1900 for info about someone who was booked in Lynn and moved to county.

Essex County has one of the few online inmate lookup tools in Massachusetts. Go to eccorrections.org/inmatelookup to search by name or inmate ID. The tool shows you who is currently held at the jail. It lists the person's charges, booking date, bail amount, and housing unit. This is a free search. No account is needed. It only covers current inmates though. Once someone is released, they drop off the list.

For people booked in Lynn who end up at the county jail, the booking number from the Lynn PD stays in the system. The county creates its own inmate ID on top of that. Both numbers can help you track a case. If you need older records for someone who has already been released, contact the sheriff's office directly or use the state court system.

Note: The Essex County inmate lookup only shows current inmates and does not include people who have been released or transferred out of the facility.

Lynn Recent Bookings in Court Records

Once a Lynn arrest moves through arraignment, the case enters the court system. Lynn District Court handles most criminal cases that come from Lynn bookings. The Massachusetts Trial Court runs all courts in the state, and you can look up Lynn cases online for free through the eAccess portal at masscourts.org. Search by name or case number. Results show charges, hearing dates, docket entries, and the current status of the case.

The eAccess system covers every Trial Court division in Massachusetts. For Lynn cases, filter by court location to narrow your results. You need to pass a CAPTCHA before each search. The name search needs at least two letters for the last name and one for the first name. You can also search by case type or date range. Criminal cases from Lynn bookings will show up here once they reach the court. The system does not show sealed records, juvenile cases, or cases that have been expunged.

For a more thorough criminal history check, the state offers iCORI through the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services. A personal check costs $25. It pulls from statewide data and shows court appearances, convictions, and detentions. You need a Massachusetts ID to use it online. Without one, you can mail a request to the DCJIS office at 200 Arlington Street, Suite 2200, Chelsea, MA 02150.

What Lynn Booking Records Include

A booking record from the Lynn Police Department has a standard set of data. The basics are the person's full legal name, any aliases, date of birth, gender, race, height, weight, and marks like tattoos or scars. A booking photo and fingerprints are taken at the time of arrest. Each person gets a booking number tied to their case.

The record also has custody details. This covers the date and time of the arrest, the arresting officer, charges with statute numbers, bail or bond amount, and the court where the case will be heard. If the person is held, the record tracks where they are housed and when they are expected to appear in court. All of this gets passed along to the Essex County system if the person is transferred to the county jail in Middleton.

Some parts of a booking record are not public. Medical and mental health info from a jail stay is always private under state and federal law. Juvenile records are off limits under M.G.L. c. 4, Section 7(26). Details that could put someone's safety at risk may also be held back. But the core booking data, including names, charges, bail, and court dates, is public in most cases.
