Norfolk County Recent Bookings Search

Norfolk County recent bookings are processed at the Norfolk County Correctional Center in Dedham. This facility handles all arrests from 28 towns and cities in the county, including Quincy, Brookline, and Weymouth. Finding recent bookings here takes a bit more work than in some other counties because Norfolk County does not run an online inmate search tool. You can still get booking records by phone, mail, or email through the sheriff's office. The Offender Management System tracks each arrest as it comes in, so current data is on file even if it is not on the web. This page walks through the best ways to look up Norfolk County booking records and arrest data.

Norfolk County Sheriff's Office Bookings

The Norfolk County Sheriff's Office runs the jail and handles all bookings for the county. Sheriff Patrick W. McDermott leads this office. It sits at 200 West Street in Dedham. When local police make an arrest in any of the 28 Norfolk County towns, the person is booked and then sent here. The jail holds pre-trial detainees and those with sentences up to two and a half years.

Norfolk County became a state agency on January 1, 2010, under Chapter 61 of the Acts of 2009. That means the sheriff is both an elected official and a state employee. During the 2020 to 2021 audit period, the facility processed 4,350 inmates. The office had 316 staff members as of June 2021. The annual budget runs between 32 and 35 million dollars. All booking data goes into the Offender Management System, which tracks names, dates of birth, booking numbers, booking dates, release dates, and housing assignments. You can reach the office at the Norfolk County Sheriff's website for more details on how this facility works.

District courts also play a big role. The Quincy District Court at 1 Dennis Ryan Parkway in Quincy handles many Norfolk County arraignments. Its phone number is (617) 376-5400. After an arrest in Quincy or nearby towns, the person goes to Norfolk County Correctional Center for booking and then to this court for arraignment. You can search court dockets through the Massachusetts Trial Court eAccess system to find case details tied to recent bookings.

Norfolk County Booking Records Access

Massachusetts has strong public records laws. Under M.G.L. c. 66, Section 10, most booking records are public. Anyone can request them. You do not need to be a family member or attorney. The law gives agencies 10 business days to respond to your request.

However, some records are exempt. Under M.G.L. c. 4, Section 7(26), certain categories of information can be withheld. This includes ongoing investigation details, juvenile records, domestic violence victim info, and confidential informant data. Medical records from the jail's CorEMR system are also off limits. The booking record itself, though, is almost always available. That includes the person's name, charges, arrest date, and booking details.

The Records Access Officer for Norfolk County government is William J. Buckley Jr. His office is at 614 High Street, Suite 201 in Dedham, MA 02027. For jail-specific booking records, use the sheriff's office email at records_request@norfolksheriffma.org. For broader county records, Buckley's office can help direct your request.

Note: The first two hours of search time are free for all public records requests in Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts iCORI system is another path to find arrest records for people booked in Norfolk County. iCORI stands for internet-based Criminal Offender Record Information. The Department of Criminal Justice Information Services runs it from 200 Arlington Street, Suite 2200 in Chelsea. The cost is 25 dollars for a personal record check and 50 dollars for open access. It takes up to 10 business days to get results.

iCORI covers all Massachusetts counties. So if someone was booked in Norfolk County, their criminal record shows up in this statewide system. It gives you conviction data, pending cases, and some booking info. You need to register and verify your identity before you can run a search. This is different from the sheriff's office records because iCORI pulls from a statewide database rather than a single jail's booking log.

The court docket search guide on mass.gov also explains how to look up case records tied to arrests and bookings across the state.

Norfolk County Jail Visitation Rules

If someone you know was recently booked at the Norfolk County Correctional Center, you may want to visit them. The rules here are strict. All visitors must be pre-approved before they can see an inmate. This is not something you can do on the same day as the booking.

Each inmate can only have five people on their approved visitor list. That list can only be changed once per quarter. Processing a new visitor takes about 10 days. To get on the list, you fill out a Visitor Pre-Approval Form and a Minor Consent Form if you plan to bring children. Send these to the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office at 200 West Street, P.O. Box 149, Dedham, MA 02027, marked to the attention of the Records Division. You can also email the forms to visits@norfolksheriffma.org.

Once approved, call (781) 329-3705 to find out the current visiting schedule. Housing units have different hours, and the schedule can change. All visitors must arrive 15 minutes early for check-in. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. A dress code applies. Property release is by appointment only and requires 24-hour notice.

For bail, call the same number. The facility takes cash bail. You need a valid ID to post it.

Norfolk County Arrest and Booking Process

The booking process in Norfolk County follows a set path. Local police make the arrest first. This could be Quincy PD, Brookline PD, Weymouth PD, or any of the other departments in the county's 28 towns. The person is booked at the local police station, where fingerprints and photographs are taken.

After that, the person is transported to the Norfolk County Correctional Center at 200 West Street in Dedham. Staff there enter the booking into the Offender Management System. This creates a record with the person's name, gender, date of birth, booking number, charges, and housing assignment. The arraignment happens at the district court that covers the area where the arrest took place.

For arrests in Quincy, arraignment is at Quincy District Court at 1 Dennis Ryan Parkway. For arrests in Brookline, the person goes through Norfolk County Correctional Center the same way. Weymouth arrests follow the same pattern. Each booking generates records at two levels: the local police department and the county jail. Both sets of records are accessible through public records requests under Massachusetts law.
